Peace can come only when the ego is dropped says, Jual Oram

Sambalpur, May 16: Sundargarh MP and Chairman, Parliament Standing Committee on Defence, Jual Oram on Monday said to the students of the Sambalpur University that ego is the major cause behind conflicts around us and peace can come only when we drop our ego. The MP was the chief guest at the inaugural function of the two-day-long national workshop on ‘Conflict Resolution and Peace Research: Issues and Perspective’ which was organized by the Career and Counseling Cell of Sambalpur University. The workshop, which was inaugurated today, will conclude on May 17.

Oram said to the students of the University to keep doing hard work with good intentions and without focusing on results. Reciting shlokas from the Gita, Oram said, working hard with honesty is in our hands but the result is not in our hands, he said. Oram said that many unexpected things happen in our lives and urged the students to remain prepared for any eventuality.

Vice-Chancellor of Sambalpur University, Sanjiv Mittal, who presided over the inaugural meeting, said to the students that knowledge, skill, and a positive attitude are essential to achieve success in life. Appreciating the effort of the Career and Counseling Cell of the varsity in organizing the workshop, the Vice-Chancellor urged the students to take up startups. Mittal said people face risk when they launch a venture. But if integrity and innovation are there, the effort will certainly become rewarding, said the Vice-Chancellor. Mittal also said to students about the importance of time management in life for success. 

Professor Ishani Nashkar of the Department of International Relations, Jadavpur University, Kolkata, attended the program as the keynote speaker. She spoke about international conflicts and discussed different types of conflict resolution strategies. Among others, Chairman PG Council of the varsity, Sanjat Sahu, Coordinator of the Career and Counseling Cell of the university, Dr. Rajat Kujur, Joint Coordinator and Assistant Professor of Department of Political Science of Sambalpur University, Rashmi Kujur were present during the workshop, which was participated by the students besides the teachers of different departments of the institution.
