Kalahandi University Organizes International Webinar on Creative Writing and Publishing

The first international webinar of KU on creative writing: Discover the writer within you

Bhawanipatna: The PG Department of English, Kalahandi University organized an international  webinar on “Current Trends in Creative Writing and Publishing: Discover the Writer within You” with an aim to encourage students to be creative writers in the new millennium. Prof. Sanjay Kumar Satpathy, Vice-Chancellor of the university in his presidential address highlighted basic principles of writing which the writers ought to adhere, calling upon the students to write something novel and useful. Sri Padmalochan Bhue,  Registrar of the University reflected on the theme of the webinar and emphasized the significance of creative writing and publishing in the new era.

The Deputy Registrar and Head of the Department  of English, Dr. Jayadeb Sahoo in his inaugural address expressed the value of creative writing towards the creation of a harmonious world. Delivering the key note address, Dr Ampat Varghese Koshy, of Jazan University, Saudi Arabia laid importance on the value of creativity  and how to unlock it. He also cited the online and offline available courses to hone the skills of writing mentioning the new forms of poetry and publishing trends like e-book publishing, chap books, kindle publishing and audio books. “Developing mental health and happiness are the two big gains of writing”, he asserted.

As a resource person, Dr. Sulagna Mohanty, of  Jain Deemed- to- Be University, Bangalore and a notable story writer shared her own experiences with writing and emphasized on the current trends of publishing creative works in the digital world. She mentioned that self publication through social media can be very much useful to share one’s writing. “Technological revolution and the pandemic has further enhanced the scope for online publication and circulation”,opined Dr.Mohanty. Prof.  Rajendra Kumar Padhi, of Baba Bhairabananda, (Auto.) Mahavidyalaya, Chandikhole, as a resource person on the occasion told that writing as an art can help one to connect with the bigger world and explore the natural environment in which one lives. He cited examples of great writers and their struggle while unleashing their creative power.

Ms. Mahua Sen, a Poet and Freelance Writer from Hyderabad, shared her individual experiences as a writer and the difficulties in choosing writing as a career. She also stressed on the transformative power of writing as an essential skill while encouraging the young writers to read and absorb knowledge from all sources. The webinar was moderated wonderfully in unison by Sri Sanjib Kumar Sahu, Asst. Professor while Dr. Radharani Nayak Lecturer in English introduced the dignitaries.The session culminated with the vote of thanks tendered by Subrat Kumar Pradhan, Lecturer in English. It was the first international webinar organized by the university apart from accomplishing 09 webinars on different topics since 20 April 2021.The online presence of seasoned scholars, intellectuals,students,writers and people of eminence across the state and globe raised the occasion to a greater height.
