HMPV has recently confirmed seven cases of the virus from different cities in India. The patients version across Bengaluru (2), Nagpur (2), Chennai (1), Ahmedabad (1) and Salem (1).

It is a respiratory virus related to diseases like the common cold. The symptoms include fever and cough, breathing problems that are more critical for very young children and elderly people, and individuals with compromised immune systems. The virus spreads through close contact; therefore, being in highly crowded spaces or not maintaining hygiene also increases the risk.

The authorities educated the public on good hygiene practices, using masks, especially in crowded places, and, when respiratory symptoms persist, going to see a doctor. In addition to this, the health department was closely monitoring the virus’s position, working to prevent further spread.
