A viral video featuring Katha Vachak Pradeep Mishra ignited a theological dispute. Mishra claimed that Radha Rani’s birthplace was not Barsana but Rawal, and that her marriage took place in Chhata. To the uninitiated, this may sound like trivial semantics. But in Braj, where Radha is not just a deity but the heartbeat of the land, such statements amounted to blasphemy.
Premanand Maharaj led the chorus of dissent. With his signature blend of spiritual authority and biting sarcasm, he dismissed Mishra’s claims as “irrelevant statements” made by someone ignorant of Braj Upasana and Radha Tattva. He urged Mishra to immerse himself in Shrimad Bhagwat and other scriptures before making such proclamations. The Braj community, fiercely protective of their cultural and spiritual heritage, rallied behind Premanand Maharaj. They demanded that Mishra apologize at the Kishori Ji temple in Barsana within seven days. Facing mounting pressure, Mishra issued a public apology and, on June 29, 2024, visited the temple to seek forgiveness.
