Alappuzha house fire

Kerala: In a tragic turn of events, Saturday saw the burning down of the house of a couple from the Alappuzha district in Kerala, which led to their demise. The 96-year-old Raghavan and his 86-year-old wife Bharathi, natives of Chennithala village, were found dead after the flames engulfed their home.

Taking the plot twist a step further, their son Vijayan is in custody for allegedly burning their house down. Because, apparently, the peaceful family discussion regarding property just wasn’t enough action for some people.

What Happened?

  • Around 3:30 am, a passing autorickshaw driver raised the alarm of this fire.
  • The villagers quickly informed the Munnar Police and Fire and Rescue Services.
  • Although these efforts were sure swift, the couple could not be saved.

Relationship Fallout?

Reports from police sources show that there had been ongoing disputes with his parents regarding property. Rather than go about it as any reasonable son would-a lawyer, your dad’s just a call away-Ithmar becomes the prime suspect in a case that has transitioned from civil to criminal.

Vijayan was arrested outside a neighbouring plot. In this light, one wonders whether one should hang somewhere else to commit a crime?

Is Under Investigation

Though the cause of fire is being investigated, suspicion of foul play thickens. One senior police officer remarked, “Further details will be disclosed later.” That’s fair enough considering that the family feud has now reached irreversible proportions.
