GMU student stage demo over Manipur violence

Sambalpur: The students of the Gangadhar Meher University (GMU), Sambalpur on Wednesday staged a demonstration protesting against the silence and inaction of the union government on the Manipur violence.

The students of the varsity gathered in front of the main gate of the institution under the banner of the ‘Progressive Sambalpur’ holding placards, reading ‘Save Manipur’,  besides displaying the pictures of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, home minister, Amit Shah and union minister for women and child development, Smrti Irani with tape over their mouths and shouted slogans against the union government besides the Prime Minister. The students were joined by trade union leaders, farmer leaders, poets and many intellectuals of the city.

Student leader of GMU, Chuman Pradhan said, the state government in Manipur has completely failed in handling the crisis. But despite the failure of the state government, the union government has chosen to remain silent over the issue. The country is ashamed of what happened in Manipur. More than 140 people have already died and thousands of the people are in relief centers. But the prime minister is silent. The chief minister of Manipur should be removed immediately, he said.
