Kalinga Lecture 2020: Focus on quality education

Bhubaneswar: Increasing privatisation has affected the efficiency and quality of education, governance structure and inequality, stated Prof R Radhakrishna, chairman, Centre for Economic and Social Studies, Hyderabad, here recently.


Delivering a keynote address as part of Kalinga Lecture 2020, titled “Towards Reforming Education in India”, hosted by Nabakrushna Choudhury Centre for Development Studies (NCDS) here, Radhakridhna compared the performance of  education sector in India with that of other BRICS nations.


He also underscored the importance of “more education” including high levels of technical knowledge and skill formation.  He also pointed out the impact of Covid-19 on the education sector in India.


The lecture identified the emerging challenges in higher education and suggested reforms for achieving efficiency with equity required to build a better society. 


Presided over by Odisha Higher Education Council vice-chairman Asoka Kumar Das the YouTube event was moderated by NCDS director Srijit Mishra. The lecture was also viewed by several Facebook users online.
Prof Das stressed the need to balance freedom or autonomy with regulation and cited examples of Odisha’s Mo School and Mo College with community participation.


Prof Shibalal Meher introduced the guests and welcomed the dignitaries while Dr Rashmi M proposed a vote of thanks. 


Technical support for the event was extended by staffers of Odisha Library Academy, Bhubaneswar and NCDS.
