With a sparkling announcement that celebrates the stalwarts of India’s cultural and artistic heritage, the Central Government has announced the prestigious Padma awards for 2025. Aptly mentioned is the most eminent awardee, celebrated playback singer Arijit Singh, who has been awarded the Padma Shri in recognition of his significant contribution to Indian music. Soulful for that matter, this man keeps drawing millions across the globe with his sunset voice.
Yet another Anant Nag, the legendary actor and a face behind the iconic series Malgudi Days, has been honored with Padma Bhushan, established in recognition of his lifetime of dedication to Indian cinema and television.
Shekhar Kapur, the director whose Elizabeth and Bandit Queen have earned international acclaim, is among the recipients of the Padma award. The Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar, for his hard-hitting performances and a massive fan following, features among the honorees, in addition to the late ghazal maestro Pankaj Udhas, who has been posthumously honored for Indian music.
The Padma awards are amongst the most esteemed civilian awards of India, classified into Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. Padma’s purpose is to promote the excellence of an artist in their field, be it social work or public affairs.
The entire list of awards just goes to showcase the wonderful diversity and talent reflected in India’s rich cultural narrative-exquisite chartbusters from Arijit or evergreen acting of Anant; all the winners-peers in excellence. The awards will be given at a ceremony later this year, blessed by the President of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
