The children of this great nation will once again make an effort to keep their eyes open during the President’s speech as Delhi’s streets ignite with parades, troops march, and Rajpath transforms into a stage for fighter planes. Each child is trying their best to stay awake while the tanks roar through the streets, as it is Republic Day! It is the 26th of January, 1950, the day when India adopted the constitution. Although Republic Day is a desirable day for Indians, it is at the same time reminder of the, things remaining to be done in Indian democracy. The Constitution ensures justice, equality, and liberty, but are these principles realized in their entirety? For goodness’s sake, we should not forget that the freedom we boast of today is sometimes obscured by communal strife, malpractice and, to be frank, potholes.

Why Republic Day Still Matters

In the midst of all the festivities, Republic Day is an annual testament to the remarkable transformation and progress that India has made since 1950. The progress of just from a young democracy to a global power is not denial.

On the other hand, it’s a day to look back—on what we’ve accomplished and on the promises that have yet to be delivered. It is an invitation to all Indians to safeguard the values contained in the Constitution.

The Sarcastic Take

Naturally, don’t forget, every year, the annual social media granddiscount . Get ready to be bombarded with “Jai Hind” posts, those with the filtered colours of the Indian flag (posted infographics, selfies, etc),” and videos of politicians suddenly developing a sudden patriotism only for 24 hours. After that, it’s business as usual.
