Kargil Vijay Diwas is a memorable day in Indian history. Starting from May 3, 1999, the war ended on July 26, with Indian soldiers regaining control over Kargil. Kargil Vijay Diwas is a day to salute the martyrs who demonstrated immense bravery and courage. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Kargil victory. The soldiers who fought in the Kargil War have now retired but still carry the memories of that time. Those who witnessed the war scenes on television are now in the later stages of their lives.

The difference between Jammu and Kashmir in 1999 and 2024 is significant. Back then, terrorists had a stronghold in Jammu and Kashmir. Today, the situation is more covert, with terrorists unable to openly challenge the authorities. The security situation in Jammu and Kashmir has improved, allowing people to move around freely. The government is planning to eradicate terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir completely. The Kargil War is a matter of national pride, and ensuring the security of Kashmir is the duty of every citizen.

Foundation Stone Laid for Shinku La Tunnel

On the occasion of the 25th Kargil Vijay Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Kargil and paid tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives. He also laid the foundation stone for the Shinku La Tunnel project, which is crucial for maintaining connectivity to Leh during adverse weather conditions. This tunnel will be the third and safest option for reaching the border areas swiftly. The current first choice is the Zojila Pass, which is near the Pakistan border, and the second option is the Baralacha Pass, close to the China border. The Prime Minister initiated the first blast for the Shinku La Tunnel project. This 4.1 km twin tunnel will be constructed at an altitude of 15,800 feet above sea level on the Nimu-Padum-Darcha road, connecting it to Leh. Once completed, it will be the highest tunnel in the world and is expected to boost the social and economic development of Ladakh.

Various Programs on the Silver Jubilee

The Kargil War, fought between India and Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC), saw India emerging victorious under the leadership of the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. As the country prepares to celebrate the silver jubilee of Kargil Vijay Diwas, the Northern Command is honoring the valiant victory of the Indian Armed Forces. Over the past year, several events have been organized to remember and thank the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation, involving the local populace, school children, distinguished citizens, and ex-servicemen.

Pakistan Will Not Succeed: Modi

Addressing the Kargil War Memorial in Dras, Ladakh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to the soldiers who fought against Pakistan and achieved victory. He stated that Pakistan’s nefarious intentions would never succeed. Remembering the 1999 war, he emphasized that Kargil Vijay Diwas reminds us of the eternal sacrifice made for the nation. Days, months, and years pass, decades go by, and centuries complete, but the names of those who gave their lives for the nation’s defense never fade. By winning the war in Kargil, we demonstrated an incredible blend of truth, discipline, and strength. I salute those who laid down their lives for our motherland. Pakistan supports terrorism, but its malicious efforts have always failed. Pakistan has learned nothing from its past.
