Declining enrollment of labourers in MNREGA Program in Kalahandi is a matter of grave concern:P. H. Kurian

Bhawanipatna,18/07 :Speaking at the 18th edition of the webinar entitled Chal Dekhma Amar Kalahandi, organized under the aegis of Samacharjustclick, Bhawanipatna, Mr P. H. Kurian, Chairman of Kerala Real estate regulatory authority and ex-PD, DRDA, Kalahandi expressed his satisfaction over the fact that the literacy rate of Kalahandi at present is 60% being double of what it was three decades ago. Further, he opined that there is a conducive environment in Kalahandi for banana harvest in particular, with the attribution that the irrigation facility in the district has changed the agricultural scenario of the region with an overwhelmingly optimistic note. Even he had all praise for the health sector of the district in mitigating the mortality rate of mother. What dismayed him the most was the declining enrollment of labourers in MNREGA program on the basis of the fact that Kalahandi district created only 15 lakhs man days last year as against   three lakhs of MNREGA cards being issued in favour of the districtby the government. “People instead of working in MNREGA are going in for migrant labour is a matter of grave concern for the district “, said Mr. Kurian.

Tabling his view at the virtual platform, the other panelist, Dr. Arun Kumar Behera, Associate professor, Sri Satya Sai Institute of higher learning, Bengaluru, in his delivery called upon the people of Kalahandi to render collective efforts for a noticeable growth of quality education in the district.He emphasized on various assistance and guidance for the students deprived of pursuing education to bring them back to the mainstream of education.”The vision ought to be vivid for the success of any educational endeavor”, said Dr. Behera.

Participating in the sesoned session, Mr. Rashmi Ranjan Panda,Vice president of Deutsche Bank, Bengaluru,in his delivery lay stress on enhancing the inner quality of the students.”It is high time on the part of the students to focus equally on both curricular and co-curricular stuffs and go in for capacity building through a forum to grab a professional career”,opined Mr. Panda.

Eventually, Mr. Saroj Mahapatra, Film maker, in his delivery said that there is no dearth of art and artist in Kalahandi and if they avail opportunity, they will unfold their rare talents.”Copying the art, culture and tradition of Kalahandi, others are making films”,said Mr. Mahapatra.

To mark the occasion, Miss Lipsa Maharana rendered Kalahandia song.With Pragati groups of Institution as knowledge Partner of the program, Sri Debendra Kumar Bishi, sr journalist moderated the entire session harmoniously.
